It's difficult to find activities when you are on holiday to impress older children, but if you are on vacation in California this year then Universal Studios is the best place to go for the wow factor. Nestled in the heart of Los Angeles; Universal Studios is a great movie attraction for you to go and see where all your favourite films and shows are made.
There is plenty to do within the park; including rides such as Jurassic Park and the Simpsons ride. Propel yourself round the land of The Mummy, or take a stop at the Shrek 4D ride to see a film with a difference.
The main attraction for this park is the studio tour, which takes you around the working studios and through sets. Visit the Bates Motel made famous by the film Psycho, and drive past the lake they used as part of the Jaws film. The tour changes depending on what is being shot there at the time, but a permanent feature is the Desperate Housewives set, where you can drive down Wisteria Lane and see the homes of all your favourite characters from the programme. You are also guided through generic towns like a Mexican village and a downtown scene, and told which films and shows these areas have been used on. The trick is that they film close up shots in these areas and then go out on location to make it feel more realistic when they do wider shots. The tour also takes you through a generic underground subway where you experience being part of a thunderstorm and flash flood, with the roof falling in, and the King Kong land made famous in the remake with Naomi Watts. See the cars made famous in films, including the DeLorean used in Back to the Future and the jeep that was used in all the Jurassic park films.
There are also a great deal of museums and exhibits to see at the park that feature memorabilia from movies made their, as well as donations from film stars, directors and producers.
If you are travelling this summer then make sure you have Holiday Insurance for your trip.
