Resort Holidays in the Cook Islands

Cook Islands resorts provide a great getaway holiday for individuals, couples, families and groups of friends. Resort accommodation means you can really relax and enjoy your holiday because everything you need is at hand. Resorts in Rarotonga are well equipped to make your stay full of fun and adventure or more laid back and restful – depending on your needs.

The Cook Islands is made up of 15 islands, with Rarotonga being the best known. If you're looking for a holiday venue in a gorgeous climate with friendly locals and beautiful scenery, the Cook Islands is definitely the place to stay. Most visitors gravitate towards Rarotonga, the 32 mile wide island which is the capital of the Cook Islands and the busy hub. There are many resorts situated along the ring road, named Ara Tapu, which circles the perimeter of the island and it's not far to travel to get anywhere on the island. You can also travel by boat or plane to some of the nearby islands such as Aitutaki and Atiu if you choose.

Most of the Cook Islands resorts are situated on the island of Rarotonga. The main village on the northern side is Avarua. The airport in Nikao is situated about 2 kilometres away. The village of Muri is on the eastern side of Rarotonga and is the main tourist area, centred on the beach and lagoon, while the western side of the island has Aroa with its protected lagoon and beach. Methods of transport around Rarotonga include rental car, motor scooter, bus and bike. Of course, you can also go by foot and there are many organised walks and treks including Pa's Tours which teach visitors about the beauty of Rarotonga.

The culture of the Cook Islands is a mixture of Polynesian and European influences. Cook Islanders are considered to be some of the best entertainers in the Pacific region, with dancing and drumming skills that are a match for any other culture in the world. In fact, music is a part of daily life in the Cook Islands and children learn their drumming and dancing skills from early childhood. Your Cook Island resort will have demonstrations of local culture and entertainment for you to enjoy during your stay. Decorative arts are also strong in this part of the Pacific, with decorative wood carvings, weaving and tapa cloth designs having a particularly distinctive Cook Islands appeal.

If you're not sure whether a Cook Islands resort will provide the right holiday for you, then imagine a tropical paradise and you will have some idea of what life is like in the Cook Islands. Your senses will be aroused by the stunning scenery, delightful colours and fragrant aromas of this natural and unspoilt part of the world. The Cook Islands' climate is warm and sunny all year round, although the coolest months are June, July and August. The warmest months are November through to March and this is also the time when tropical cyclones can be expected from time to time. April to November are the driest months in the Cook Islands. It is unusual to experience any form of really severe weather problems in these beautiful islands, so the islands are suitable for holidays all year round.
