Snorkelling Trips around Pharoahs Island in Taba

In step with most other sea side resorts in Egypt, snorkelling outings are available for tourists to Taba and Taba Heights. The spot is Pharoah's Island which is also referred to as Farun Island. It is located just off the Sinai coastline around 40 minutes cruising time from Taba Heights harbour. On the island, probably the most visible landmark is the old fortification constructed in the period of the Crusades by the Saracens.

The snorkelling visit is run on a fantastic boat with masts and lots of deck space so that you can soak up the sunshine. The setting in the upper end of the Gulf of Aqaba is amazing between the mountain range of the Sinai on one side and breathtaking views over to Jordan on the other. Having said that, the exceptional sights are seen beneath the crystal clear, warm waters.

Before you can don your mask and go into the water, the snorkelling guide will brief you about some things about the snorkelling area. Dive boats also head over to Pharoah's Island therefore although its easy to only look down and enjoy the variety of sea life, you've got to be mindful of various other boats, divers and your location.

After the formalities are complete, your own snorkelling crowd gets into the ocean and you are an observer upon a superb marine world packed with life and colour. Most people believe that scuba diving is the perfect way to observe the incredible sea life on the coral reefs but snorkelling has one huge advantage. Mainstream scuba equipment is what is referred to as open circuit. In Layman's terms, which means that when you breathe out using scuba gear, you to discharge flow of bubbles into the water. This will disturb the fish hence it's more difficult to get near to them. However, there are no bubbles when snorkelling and you can float along in your own quiet world and you'll be blown away at just how close you are able to the little fish without frightening them away.

The array of fish and things to find while snorkelling at Pharoah's Island is quite simply unbelievable. In a perfect world you should aim to get closer to the coral formations as several of the creatures keep near to it but bear in mind not to touch as there are many things such as Fire Coral and Lion Fish that can give you a horrible sting. It is quite possible you will notice the little Clown Fish which we all love. If you're especially lucky, you may even see a Frog Fish which can be found in this area of Egypt. Outings to Pharoah's Island are popular and run on a daily basis.
