Planned Trip to Chikmagalur

Chikmagalur is also famous by the name of Chikkamagaluru. It is a city situated in Chikkamagaluru region in the Indian state of Karnataka. The city is known for its coffee and tea estates and it is situated in the foothills of Mullavanagiri range. Chickmagalur region was known as Kadur region till 1947. It is located in the south western part of Karnataka state. A great area of this region is 'malnad' that is a forested hilly region attracting heavy rainfall.

The closest airport to this city is Baipe inetranatioanl airport of Mangalore that is at the distance of 160 km and the closet railway station is Kadur, which is at the distance of 40 km. Chickmagalur region was known as Kadur region till 1947. It is located approximately in the southwestern part of Karnataka state. 'Malnad', is the largest part of this district, which is considered as a largely forested hilly area of heavy rainfall. The city has a pleasant climate.

Hiremagalur is now considered as apart of Chickmgalaur town. It has an Ishwara temple with a 1.22 metre high curious rotund figure of Jademuni. During the serpent sacrifice of the King Janamejaya, the temple Yoopastambha was supposed to be installed. There is also a Parashurama temple and a Kali shrine. Chikmagalur is situated at an altitude of 1037 meters, the hill stations around Chikmagalur are well known for summer retreats, and during the time of summers, they remain cool. However, the temperature of the town varies from 11-20 °C during winter and in summers it is 25-32 °C.

Chikmagalur is a popular place for tourists and it is considered as the main tourist spot. Ratnagiri bore, is signifies as a place of scenic beauties which is renamed as Mahatma Gandhi Park. The town also has several good educational institutes. It is well known for coffee.  Chickmagalur region has lots more to offer its visitors. For shopping, M.G. road is considers as great place to roam around.  Here, all the villages and towns are related to some sought of interesting stories and some festivals or jatra is on throughout the year.

Local temples here celebrate the annual festivals with great enthusiasm that is held in several villages and towns. Suggi habba or harvest festival is commemorated with happiness in the rural parts and offers a rare chance of witnessing Kolata, Salu Kunitha, Suttu Kunitha, the Raja Kunitha and Fire walking, which is a highlight of the region.
