Laici Agostiniani in Rome

Lay Augustinians are baptized, men and women who wish to make their journey of faith following the spirituality of St. Augustine in the Augustinian Family.

They intend to share the same journey of faith, fellowship and evangelism together with the other three dimensions that make up the Augustinian Family: Augustinian friars (priests and brothers), the Augustinian nuns of contemplative life, the Augustinian Sisters of Apostolic Life.

These are the various lay groups existing on Italian territory:

a) Fraternity "Communio". Established by the Prior General in 1992, is a Secular Institute of the Augustinian Order. It is characterized by the taking of vows, according to a Charter right. E 'divided into local fraternities.
b) Third Order of Augustinian. Some ancient TOA groups exist with the same mode of organization before the statute of 1980.
c) Fraternity of the Secular Augustinian or FAS. They are the most recent edition of the Third Order of Augustinian, born after the Statute of 1980, with local fraternity established by decree of the Prior General.
d) Confraternity. Also constituted by the Prior General, are characterized by a particular devotion or service to a particular shrine. Next to an aspect of training and devotion, emphasizing the aspect of the service (liturgical, social ...).
e) Unions Pie. Institutions are similar to those that today are called "prayer groups" linked to a particular devotion. In Italy we find two unions Pie "Augustinian" main:
- The Pious Union of B. M. Our Lady of Good Council, linked to the devotion to Our Lady of Good Counsel of Genazzano. It currently has 33 groups.
- The Pious Union of St. Rita of Cascia. It brings together various groups with different names (the Brotherhood, Pious Union, Association, Group of prayer ...) but with the same bond of devotion to St. Rita. Recently, at the request of the Augustinian Province of Italy, was established by the Holy See the "Pious Union of St. Primary Rita da Cascia "in order to coordinate all the ecclesial groups emerged around the devotion to St. Rita.

f) Other groups Augustinians. There are other groups Augustinian Order bound to follow the spirituality and providing for collaboration: for example the "Friends of St. Augustine "Missionary Association and the Apurimac.

g) The affiliates. The last group consists of Augustinian lay individuals who were "affiliated" to the Order by the Prior General and made partakers of the spiritual goods of the same, because of acquired special merits in favor of the Order itself.

Every person, since she was baptized - reminds us of St. Paul - is called to holiness, without exception. For the Apostle says firmly: "God wants this, that become holy" (1 Thess. 4.3).

"Holiness"! Great word - and unusual today - that we avoid because it scares us. But to put it more simple and understandable, God wants each of us realize the plan which he prepares to everyone, for this life and eternal life.
