Antigua is located to the East of the Caribbean. It is a part of a cluster known as the Leeward Islands of which Antigua is the largest. The island is around 120 square miles in total and is steeped in history and beauty. The island also boasts around 365 beaches, so there is plenty to choose from when you look into booking a 5* resort in Antigua. Any holiday-maker likes to have all the comforts of an island paradise, like golden beaches, crystal clear oceans and glorious sunshine.  The island is known for its good climate so if you choose an Antigua 5* resort you're almost certain to experience the paradise holiday you dreamed of. The island is also steeped in history given the historically close links with Britain and the British Navy in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. Staying at a resort offers seclusion and luxury. With its 365 beaches you're bound to have a lot of space to yourself in order to relax and embrace the sunshine.

For those who love to try new things and experience other cultures, most Antigua 5* resorts will offer local dishes as a speciality such as the national dish famous in Antigua and Bermuda known locally as Fungie and Pepper Pot. Most 5* resort staff will endeavour to recommend the tastiest dish so you get a real cultural experience on your holiday. Tamarind Stew is also a national dish famous around Antigua and will probably be available in your resort restaurant as well. The joy of staying in an Antigua 5* resort is the fact that you can completely relax. You literally do not have to lift a finger and can enjoy fresh, cool drinks and fabulously cooked meals by local chefs that give you a real taste of the island. You can of course venture from your hotels to do some sightseeing and many resorts offer small trips and excursions so you can visit the attractions and beauty of the island.

The island is also known for its close ties with Britain and the British Navy in the late 1800's and the beginning of the 1900's. Horatio Nelson was the Senior Naval Officer of the Leeward Islands which is the reason for Antigua's splendid dockyards which were formed to provide a base for British ships, they have been restored to their original splendour and remain a great tourist attraction for the island today. Staying at an Antigua 5* resort doesn't just mean lazing around, basking in the sunshine all day, it allows for you to explore the island at your own pace, trying local delicacies and cuisines on the way whilst learning about the history of the island and the native people.
