Air News On New & Modified Aircraft & The Millestone B787 Dreamliner Roll Out

  1. The first Boeing 787 Dreamliner that was due to have entered service with launch customer,Japanese carrier, All Nippon Airlines (ANA) ,last month,rolled out of the paint hangar recently in preparation for its planned delivery  and entry into service.

The aircraft bears a special livery signifying the core elements on ANAs servive brand-innovation ,uniqueness and te inspiration of Japan.

"Our  teams are making outstanding progress in completing the first aircraft to be delivered and achieving certification of the 787," said Scott Fancher,vice president nand general manager of the 787 programme at the time of roll out.

"We are inspired by the airlines enthusiasm for this airplane and look forward to the day when we make our first delivery to ANA.

"ANAs passengers will be the first to experience the 787 Dreamliner s comfortable interior environment ," said Mitsuo Morimoto,ANA senior executive vice president and member of the board of directors."Combined with ANAs superior levels of service,passengers will enjoy a spacious interior ,larger windows,comfortable seats and touch-panel in-flight entertainment screens."

Some of the most innovative technologies aboard the 787 are not visible ,but will help passengers have a more pleasant and confortable flight,thanks to its airplanes cleaner cabin air,lower cabin altitude and higher humidity.

Boeing was scheduled to deliver the first 787 to ANA shortly after this edition of the World Airnews went to press. A story on the delivery will be published in next months edition.

ANA will operate its first 787 revenue flight as a charter international flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong.

The B787 Dreamliner is an all-new aircraft featuring a host of technologies which Boeing claims will provide exceptional value to airlines and unparalleled levels of comfort to passengers. It is the first mid-size aircraft capable of flying long-range routes ,enabling airlines to open new,non-stop routes preferrd by the traveling public.

Airvan  Goes Turbine

Australia –Based Airvan manufacturer ,GippsAero,previously known as Mahindra Aerospace /Gippsland Aeronautics,has announced that it haschosen the 450-hp Rolls Royce 250 turboprop powerplant fotr its

new GA10 Airvan 10-passenger version of the eight-passenger GA8 utility aircraft ,which is in service around the world.

A contract for the supply of the engines was signed during the recent AirVenture show in Oshkosh where it was announced that deliveries of the new aircraft would begin in 2013.

Gippsland was an Australian company that was bought by Indian conglomerate Mahindra in 2009 and the Indian company  and the Indian company has begun production in Australia .The prototype of the GA10 is expected to fly later this year and first deliveries are expected in 2013.

The GA10 turboprop utility aircraft project is proceeding well and is expected to build to the success of the GA8 Airvan.

The GA10 will bring an entry-level turboprop utility aircraft to the market place and will be an ideal machine for operators of piston engine aircraft  to make the significant step up to turboprop operations in a manageable way.

The GA10 turboprop will be a whole new FAR 23 certified aircraft type,Rolls Royce 250 B 17F2 engine. The project is currently in the prototype design phase.

First metal was cut in May and avionics ,air intake filter,STOL kit and autopilot options will be developed concurrently.

"Using the latest design and analysis tools, were able to work in a concurrent way to develop components and produce an efficient integrated design," said

engineering manager Gerhard Jordaan.

The project is proceeding to plan and, based on current projections , the first prototype of the GA10 is scheduled to fly next month, with certification activity to continue throughout 2012 for a target launch date in 2013.

"Our goal is  to retain the successful GA8 design and to use current production parts to provide a strong support solution across the globe" added Jordaan.

The STOL aircraft will offer a range of optional extras to target individual operators specific needs including EFIS choice and propeller brake system to decrease cycle times. The aircraft will have

fast configuration changes beteen 1 seats or cargo,lending more flexibility to operators.

The GA10  will provide at least five hours endurance with eight occupants or will carry up to 10 occupants with a fuel trade-off .GippsAero expects to publicly debut the Type certified GA10 at the 2013 Australian International air show.

Gulfstream Renames The G250

Gulfstream Aerospace has renamed the super mid-sized Gulfstream G250  aircraft as the Gulfstream G280,the move being prompted by the companys "sensitivity to the varied cultures of its international customer base".

"Since introducing the Gulfstream G250 in 2008 and presenting it to customers around the world ,we determined that the G280 is a more amenable number sequence in certain cultures," said Larry Flynn,senior vice president ,Marketing and Sales,Gulfstream ."We value our international customers highly, and this change reflects our commitment to understanding the diverse cultures of our global business environment."

The renaming will not affect any other in-production Gulfstream aircraft.

Gulfstream introduced the G280 during  the NBAA conference and exhibition in Orlando in 2008. It offers the largest cabin and the longest range at the fastest speed in its class.The business jet is capable of traveling 3400 nautical miles at Mach 0,80 and has a maximum operating speed of Mach 0,85.
