Winter is upon us as we make the slippery start down to Christmas. First Halloween, then bonfire night and before you know it we will be in the advent period. Some people dread this time of year for the cold weather and the snow, but some people look forward to it every year for one reason: the piste.
Skiing and snowboarding are two hobbies loved by the great British public, and if you are one of these people then you will feel the draw back to the slopes in the winter for the skiing celebrations and hot toddies to warm your bones.
There are some really popular skiing resorts in America and Canada, like Aspen in Colorado and Banff, but you don't have to go long haul to experience some great skiing. Places like Courcheval in France and areas in Switzerland are just as good as their North American rivals, but will save you some money for the other costs incurred when skiing.
If you are a first time skier and want to make sure that you have had a little practice so you don't spent the first few days on your bum, then Milton Keynes offers a ski facility with real snow where you can learn the ropes.
If you are new to skiing the best advice is to just get out there and do it. There are different slopes for different levels, and you can also book in to be taught to ski for the first couple of days don't forget that it's really not as cold as you think, and in no time at all you will wonder what you worried about.
Great advice if you are planning on starting snowboarding is to invest in some cushioned shorts. They aren't the best fashion statement but in a place where people are wrapped up in as many layers as they can find, fashion really isn't the end game. They will protect your bum in the first few days when you find yourself falling onto it a lot.
If you are planning on hitting the slopes this winter then make sure you check that your Travel Insurance policy covers you for skiing as a lot will make sure that you add it as an extra.
