South Shore or South Coast?

Anyone who is a parent and who either owns a car or is relatively au fait with the rail or bus networks will have found themselves contemplating the obligatory summer trip to the seaside.

The United Kingdom has many seaside resorts and where to go will depend upon a whole range of factors, not least proximity and also how long one intends to stay away.  Where the day trip is concerned, as a rule of thumb the southerner will head for a southern resort whilst the northerner will plump for a northern one.  This makes sense when one only has a few hours to spare and does not intend to be spending most of it travelling.

On England's south coast one is quite spoilt for choice.  Weymouth, Eastbourne, Bournemouth, Poole, Hastings, Southsea, Worthing, Hayling, Hove and Lyme Regis to name just a few.

By far the most popular resort on the south coast is of course Brighton.  Because it is so popular it can, especially on weekends and Bank Holidays, become extremely crowded.

Some opt to take the short but obscenely expensive sailing across the water to the Isle of Wight, England's Sunshine Isle.  Others prefer to look to the east - towards Kent, the Garden of England, where Margate and Ramsgate in particular have their own special appeal.

Up in the north meanwhile there are Skegness, Scarborough and.  Many northern folk swear that the northern resorts have a more traditional feel, are way less commercialised and truer to the spirit of the old British seaside resort that we all know and some of us love.

But standing above them all, even towering above if one forgives the pun, is Blackpool, on England's north-west coast.  Not for nothing is it known as Britain's holiday capital.

Most holidaymakers who have visited Blackpool would argue that it is the quintessential coastal resort.  Even those whose preference may still be for the slightly warmer climes of the south – even those with a peculiar romantic attachment, as many of us have, for a specific resort – would readily concede that Blackpool is the daddy of the coastal towns, and stands apart from other resorts around the country.

With its famous Tower, its Pleasure Beach, its Golden Mile, its Illuminations, not to mention its entertainment and ample provision of excellent value accommodation, Blackpool is one of those places that even a Ramsgate regular or a sucker for Skeggie will feel they must visit at least once in a lifetime.

For those who live in the vicinity of the north-west there is the attractive option of Blackpool as a simple day trip.  For those who dwell further afield however it makes perfect sense to seek out a pleasant and inexpensive Blackpool guest house and book oneself in for a couple of nights.  Strategically, South Shore is a good place to locate, being conveniently placed just a short walk from all the main Blackpool attractions.

Luckily good Blackpool hotels are plentiful, ensuring both availability and competitive pricing.  Take some time to find out what they are offering and give them a call.
