Honolulu Downtown Guide

Honolulu is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Hawaii. It has more than 377,000 residents. Since 1845, it has been the main capital of Hawaii. It gains recognition throughout the world after the Second World War occurred. Honolulu has 5 districts including downtown Waikiki, manoa makiki, eastern Honolulu and western Honolulu. In the Hawaiian language, Honolulu refers to sheltered bay.

Honolulu used to be small village. In 1809, the site was conquered by King Kamehameha I. King Kamehameha I conquered the island so that he can relocate his palace to Oahu. Later, King Kamehameha III relocated to Honolulu from Lahaina. Honolulu Port is a busy harbor where merchants' ships depart and arrive continuously. In the 1800s, missionaries came to Hawaii through the Honolulu Port to spread the gospels to the local people. Slowly, many businesses are being established in the town. During the late 1800s, the Hawaiian monarchy was overthrown. Subsequently, it became a part of the United States. After it became a part of the United States, the U.S. military moved to the site. It experiences fast economic growth. The Honolulu airport is the primary way for visitors to enter into Waikiki.

Honolulu has almost the same temperature throughout the year. The temperature can change in between 80 – 65 degree Fahrenheit at anytime. During the summer, the temperature of the water is 82 degree Fahrenheit. In the winter, the water has a temperature of 77 degree Fahrenheit. Though the temperature is almost the same in all areas, the amount of rain that falls in the regions of Honolulu are different. For example, if you are in Waikiki, there will be lots of sunshine. If you happen to be at the hills, you will experience some rain. 

Honolulu has many beaches. The most famous beach in Honolulu is the Waikiki Beach. Waikiki Beach is a white sandy beach that often gets crowded. The Diamond Head services a backdrop for Waikiki Beach. It offers a wide selection of recreational activities such as swimming, canoe, sunbathing, and etc. If you don't want to be among the crowd, you can visit the Ala Moana Park. The Ala Moana Park has a less crowded beach where you and your family can have some peace. Hanauma Bay is a popular beach in eastern Honolulu. Hanauma Bay is great for snorkeling and scuba diving. Besides, you can visit the Halona Beach Cove. The Halona Beach Cove is a perfect swimming spot because it has calm wave.
