Kanyakumari – India's Last Point

Kanyakumari is located in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. Kanyakumari is a popular picnic and tourist spot and a large number of people visit the place to see sunrise and sunset. It is the meeting point of three oceans, namely Indian ocean, Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal sea. Thiruvalluvar statue: The memorial statue of Thiruvalluvar is in Kanyakumari. The pedestal of the statue is of 38 feet height and the statue over it is 95 feet tall with a grand total of 133 feet for the entire sculpture.
Sunrise and sunset in Kanyakumari: Sunrise can be seen in Kanniyakumari throughout the year at Bay of Bengal. Sunset can be seen from View Tower throughout the year except the months of June, July and August.
Vivekananda Rock Memorial: Vivekananda Rock Memorial is another place in Kanyakumari which attracts large number of tourists. From very ancient times, the rock has been regarded as sacred place.
Suchindrum : Suchindrum is a small village about 12 km. From Kanyakumari and about seven kilometres from Nagercoil. This holy place is located on the bank of the river Pazhayar.
Mahatma Gandhi Memorial: The beautiful Gandhi Memorial completed in 1956, is situated as a memorial to the Father of the Nation.

Chikmagalur - A Serene Hill Station

Chikmagalur is also known as Chikmangalur, Chikkamagaluru and also spelled as Chikmaglur.

History: Chikmaglur is a Kannada word which literally means town of younger daughter (Chik-small, maglu-daughterand uru-town). Chikmaglur is located 250 kms north west of Bangalore, well known for its coffee as they are the largest producer of coffee in India. Chikmaglur is also renowned for its verdant hills, thick forests and the lush appearance of flourishing vegetation especially the coffee and spice plantations.

Landscape, Vegetation and Climate: The area under forest cover in Chikmagalur in District is 48.56%. The forest area is 3.49 lakhs Ha. Out of the district, the geographical area is 7.20 lakhs. Tree cover in the district outside forest area is 10% and this is mainly due to the coffee and other plantation crops in private holdings. The vegetation is very diverse and has the following forests:

Chikmagalur is land of rivers as many as 7 rivers originate. The rivers are namely Netravathi, Bhadra, Tunga, Yagachi, Avathi, Veda and Hemavathi.

The district is the main catchment of Cauvery and Krishna basin.

-Sringeri: Sringeri is 90 km west of Chikmagalur town and is situated on the banks of river Tungabhadra.

-Horanadu: Horanadu is 100 km southwest of Chikmagalur and 8 Km from Kalasa, and is known for the ancient temple of Sri Annapoorneshwari.

- Kuduremukh: Kuduremukh literally means "horse face" is located 95 km south-west of Chikmagalur town and is so called as the mountain range resembles the face of a horse.

-Kemmanagundi : Also known as K.R. Hills is a very famous hill station located on the Baba Budan range of hills.

-Hebbe Falls: 10 kms away from Kemmanagundi, Hebbe falls is located where the water gushes down in form of two stages: Dodda Hebbe (Big Falls) and Chikka Hebbe (Small Falls).
