Mallorca Shopper's and Diner's Heaven

Mallorca has to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain. Well… it is not actually in Spain proper! The island is found off the eastern coastline of Spain, within the Mediterranean Sea, just a few hours away. It is part of the Balearic Islands archipelago, which also includes the islands of Manorca, Formentera and Ibiza.

With tourism at an all time high in the island, there are Mallorca hotels found across it, not just in the capital city. The beaches are undoubtedly the number one tourist attractions in Mallorca, but this isn't the only thing tourists will find exciting here.

Flying to Mallorca was the fastest and most convenient way to get into the island from anywhere on the European mainland. However, today there are super fast ferries that glide there way across the Mediterranean from several ports.

Shopper's Heaven:
The island of Mallorca, being a popular tourist destination, has a wide range of excellent shopping options for tourists. From the modern stores to the market places, there are plenty of things to purchase while holidaying in the island. Palma de Mallorca is, not surprisingly, the most shopping friendly destination on the island. There are several places worth exploring in the city. Visitors just need to make sure there credit card has been warmed up!

While in the capital city, stroll down the large avenue known as Passeig d'es Born, where a host of local and modern stores offer there services. Just next to the Passeig d'es Born is the flower filled street of Las Ramblas. Within walking distance of this avenue is the centre of town, which boasts the Mercat d'Olivar – among Mallorca's oldest and largest market places. The Passeig per l'Artesania is home to a host of traditional products, such as pearls, which can be purchased by travellers as excellent souvenirs. Finally, a great place for modern stores and merchandise is the Avenida Jaume III.

Around the island, several shopping centres can also be found. These include the likes of Festival Park, and Al Campo. In addition to shopping, they are great for eating out too, as they contain a large number of restaurants. However, Mallorca is certainly more famous for its numerous markets that are found in the villages and towns of the island. Everyday of the week a market is on somewhere, such as the Wednesday market at Andratx, or the Friday markets in Inca and Son Carrio.

Diner's Heaven:
There are some amazing restaurants also located throughout the island of Mallorca, from which visitors can enjoy traditional local cuisines and international ones to boot. Of course, the city of Palma de Mallorca contains most of the restaurants on the island, but there are some magnificent places to eat in other parts of the island too.

In Mallorca, one of the best places to enjoy a meal is the Magaluf tourist district, and the main avenues in the city centre. Outside the capital, visitors will be able to find many places to eat. The town of Pollenca has a wide range of restaurants worth visiting, and the towns of Porto Andraitx and Son Vida also boast a fantastic range of dining options for tourists.

When eating in the island, there are a few wonderful dishes that cannot be missed. Tapas is quite popular for most meals in the island, and includes sardines and aubergines. In addition, the croissant-like bread roll called ensaimada is one of the most widely eaten snack options or quick breakfast options. Of course, Mallorca is also home to local cheeses and breads, which are commonly used for snacks and entres.
