Maldives: Second Most Popular Island Destination

According to the prestigious Condé Nast Traveller magazine, Maldives is the second most popular island destination in the world.

Now, this is a prestigious title with shall we say it, wealthy readers. I think that's a fair summary but correct me if I'm wrong.

Now, location wise it comes as little surprise owing to the Maldives' vast array of natural beauty, miles of oceans and array of top class hotels offering the utmost in luxurious accommodation. Cost wise might it also suggest that Maldives holidays offer an affordable escape despite their relatively high prices when compared to other island destinations?

I am not too sure, but what I am sure if is that the appeal of this enchanting destination has never been greater.  But where to stay when you get there? That's the great thing, there are literally of dozens of immaculate and highly enticing hotels, owing perhaps to their geographical make up - many of them are located on their own islands, so they'd quickly fail were they not up to certain standards.

Conde Nast's 14th annual Readers' Travel Awards recognised the Kuda Huraa Four Seasons Resort as ‘The Best of the Best in the World's Top 100′ resorts. The resort was also named ‘Best Overseas Leisure Hotel in the Middle East, Africa and Indian Ocean'. Quite an evening for them, then...and this is quite some place to stay if you are thinking of splashing out on a luxury holiday somewhere truly exotic.

Their Resort General Manager Sanjiv Hulugalle travelled to London to receive the award on behalf of the Four Seasons and said "This award is a testament to an amazing joint effort and we're incredibly grateful to everyone who voted for us," he then continued with "We're constantly looking to raise the bar."

Raise the bar is what they have done so successfully in the past, admirably it has to be said, by providing scrumptious deluxe accommodation in the most serene of locations where a sun kissed beach and azure waters form an near perfect embrace, but the location is merely the beginning.

Lavish room types feature direct beach access, some with plunge pool, others with swim shower, and others that step directly into the shimmering lagoon from a stilted tanning deck. Wow? Wow indeed, and then some. Each room comes fantastically equipped with aspects like private bar, satellite TV and full internet access a given.

A special feature, if it's fair to list just one could well be their Island Spa, which forms a haven of respite and is only accessible by wooden dhoni boat. Its moored on its own little mini island. Once here you can take up residence in one of seven treatment pavilions each overlooking those rhythmic waters of the magical Indian Ocean. Hmm..

It's no wonder both the destination and this particular hotel have received such high industry acclaim. I think it's time to start saving those pennies...
