Kolkata formerly known as Calcutta the erstwhile capital of India during the British regime is a unique tourist destination of India. The city stills has several buildings and monuments that reminds of its glorious past. Now the commercial capital of East India the city is a major metropolitan city of India. The city now developing at a rapid pace it is a live wire of activity.

The rowing regatta events are held here.

Besides these attraction if its spirituality that you are looking for then Kolkata has its share of various religious institutions of various faiths. The most popular religious site in Kolkata is the Kalighat Temple dedicated to Goddess Kali it is one of the highly revered religious site in Kolkata with swarms of devotees pouring in from all over. Dakhineswar Kali Temple and Belurmath another major religious spot located on the banks of river Hooghly.

Other major religious sites of Kolkata are the Nakhoda Mosque, St. Paul's Cathedral, St. John's Church, Armeniun Church, The Maghen David Synagogue, Japanese Buddhist Temple and many more.

And yes tourists travelling to Kolkata should definitely try the hugely popular Bengali sweets like the Rasogolla, Ras malai, Sandesh and also shop for the various local artifacts because as we say no trip is complete without shopping in the local markets.
