UK Tier 5 Visas - Maximum Staying Times

When you apply for a UK Tier 5 visa, there are a variety of different reasons you may be in need of one, but all reasons have a maximum amount of time that you can stay. The majority of people who apply for a UK Tier 5 visa are going to work temporarily or take a course, but there are a variety of other reasons as well. Below are some of those reasons for staying and how long you can stay.

Temporary Workers – If your goal is to work temporarily within the United Kingdom. Getting a job in the UK might be done before you move there permanently or it could be to work for a while to get experience. The maximum amount of time you can hold this visa is two years.

Creative or Sporting – If you will be going to the UK in order to do art or perform in sports, then the maximum amount of time you can stay is 12 months. During this time, you must agree to only be participating in the activity you are there for.

Religious Reasons – If you are traveling to the United Kingdom for religious reasons, you must be sponsored by the faith community you are a part of. You can go there to teach, preach, or learn but only for two years maximum.

Exchange Student – This is allowed under the UK Tier 5 program, but you must be sponsored by the company that the exchange is through. Exchange students, or exchanges done for the purpose of knowledge exchange or development exchange, are permitted for a maximum of 12 months.

Volunteer Work – Going to the UK to volunteer for an organization is allowed, but you must prove sponsorship from the charity or organization that is bringing you over. You are allowed to be a voluntary worker within the UK for a maximum of 12 months.

To apply for a Tier 5 visa you need to be between the ages of 18 and 30 to qualify. If you are outside of that age range, there may be another form of visa you can apply for.
