Char Dham is the four sacred places of Hindu religions. A word Dham means house of God. These all four Dhams situated in Uttarakhand and located in the four corners of India. It is Badrinath in the north, Jagannath Puri in the east, Rameshwaram in the south and Dwarka in the east. The four pious houses of God are Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamnotri.
The Yatra of Char Dham is considered as the most divine and sacred Pilgrimage tour of India. These all Char Dham is in the lap of Mother Nature. They all are surrounded by the Himalayan ranges. Char Dham is also known as Dev Bhumi which means abode of God. These holy places run from last week of April to last week of October at every year. Best time to visit- May-June and August- October.
The Major attractions and highlights of Char Dham are-:
Gangotri-: It is dwelling house of River Ganga. Gaumukh is the place from where Ganga is originates. It is 14 kilometers distance from Temple Gangotri. This holy Dham opens during the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya.
Yamnotri-: It is birth place of River Yamuna. Yamnotri is located in District Uttarkashi. According to Hindu mythology Yamuna is the sister of Yamraj. He is well known by ‘God of Death'. The major attractions of Yamnotri are Suryakund, Divya Shila, Saptarishi Kund and many more.
Kedarnath-: Divine home of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The ancient temple of Kedarnath was built by Pandavas. Worship of Lord Shiva is believed to wipe out all evils and provide ultimate soul improvement. Languages spoken are Hindi, English and Garhwali. May to October is the best visit time to this lovely religious place.
This place is well linked by road and air from major cities of India. Gaurikund, Chandrashila, Deoria Tal Etc. are the attractions of Kedarnath temple.
Badrinath-: Sacred home of Lord Vishnu. There are 15 idols of Lord Vishnu, Shiva, Garuda made by black stones. This temple is situated banks of river Alaknanda. The nearest Airport is jolly grant Dehradun. The popular attractive place near Badrinath is Tapt Kund, Brahma Kapal, Sheshnetra, Charanpaduka and Many more.
This Char Dham is located top on the hills but some travel company offers Char Dham Yatra By Helicopter. It is good for Old devotees. Once a lifetime must do Char Dham Yatra.
