The town of Biarritz is a very popular French tourist destination located along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, in the southwestern pocket of the country. There are many things to see and do, so visitors are bound to have an enjoyable time when travelling here. Hotels in Biarritz can be extremely comfortable, and the locals are very welcoming people.
The most efficient way to get into the city for international passengers is by air, as the Biarritz-Anglet-Bayonne International Airport operates just three kilometres away from town. If trains are the preferred option, then visitors can also reach Biarritz from almost anywhere in Europe.
From the golden shores of the beaches, to the shopping stores along the streets, Biarritz is designed to accommodate visitors in the best way possible.
Museums: the city of Biarritz is home to a stunning array of landmarks, including museums. One of the most visited in the town is the fabulous Asiatic Museum. Tibetan, Nepalese and Indian cultural exhibits are among the many collections found in the museum. It is located in the outskirts of the town, but visitors can easily reach the museum via the convenient transportation found in Biarritz. However, this is not the only museum in the city worth visiting. There is also a museum found closer to the coast that contains a wide range of aquatic species. It is known as the Museum of the Sea, and includes a wondrous array of sea animals, from sharks to seals to fish species. In addition to the exhibits, the actual museum is housed in a beautiful art deco structure.
Beaches: although there are plenty of beautiful structures and museums located within the city, this tourist resort town is certainly most famous for its beaches. The main beach in the city is the Grande Plage, which stretches across the main area of the city. It is usually packed with people during the warmer months of the year. However, if the main beach is too crowded, then there are many other options available. Surfers will adore the beach commonly called Cote de Basque, as it is certainly never as busy as Grande Plage, and provides perfect conditions for long boards. Anglet Beach also contains great surfing conditions, and is easily accessible from the centre of Biarritz via the bus network or taxis. Young children will find the perfect beach to swim at Plage du Pointe Vieux. It is a small cove that gives protection for its swimmers.
Entertainment: when it comes to entertainment, there are a few attractions in the city of Biarritz that certainly fall under this category. There are two casinos in the town, located upon Grande Plage, the primary beach in the city. There are also several spas found in Biarritz, include some sea healing spas that are quite unique.
Other: in addition to beaches, museums, and casinos, Biarritz is also the home of several architectural marvels and natural attractions. If visitors travel to the end of Pointe Atalaye, they cannot miss the magnificent Virgin of the Rocks. There is a white statue located in this area, but most visitors travel here for its awesome views of the Basque countryside. While visiting the rocky coast of Biarritz, tourists may as well take a look at the local lighthouse, which also boasts spectacular views of the countryside. Costing only a couple of euros to see, the lighthouse is a must visit feature of the city. Finally, there are so many churches to be found in the town. St Martin Church, Church of St Eugenie and the Russian Orthodox Church are just a few of the religious structures available.
