If you are looking for a cheap weekend away this summer, then why not try the German town of Baden Baden? On the edge of the Black Forest, the spa town offers you something amazing for a long weekend.
The airport is around twenty minutes away by taxi, and when you get to the town you will notice the cute, chocolate box style houses and the pretty facades of the shops. The town sits in the hill and you can walk around the pretty church or take a bus ride up to a little cafe in the forest, where you can sip tea and look out over the views of the town.
Back in the main streets there are scores of little cafes and eateries offering traditional German food like herrings and apple, German sausage and sauerkraut, and you can wash down the delightful meals with a tankard of local beer.
Wandering round the streets and popping into all the little bakeries and sweet shops is fun enough, but the real draw of the town are the spa baths. You can choose to opt for the traditional bath where you strip down and get scrubbed, buffed and washed till your skin goes red, or for the more modern visitor you can take a trip to the modern baths. There is a salt inhalation room, a sauna, steam room and large swimming pool, and you can also swim in the outdoor pool which offers you Jacuzzis and rapids. Great in the winter when there is snow on the ground, but also lovely and relaxing in the summer to swim in the great outdoors. The bath spa also offers added extras like massages and facials, at an extra cost, and you can rent your towels here too.
The locals recommend walking along the river that runs through the town, and you can also visit the casino which is very popular with tourists.
If you are planning on visiting the black forest this summer then make sure you have holiday insurance to cover you in case of any accident or emergency on your trip. The Cheapest Travel Insurance is available online.
