All About Hong Kong

There are alluringly gorgeous malls, local shops that are ever-so-appealing, action packed amusement parks and delicious dishes that will keep you coming back for seconds. What was once a cluster of fishing villages is now one of the most popular vacation destinations inAsia.

Found in the southeast coast ofChina,Hong Kongis made up of three parts. They are,Hong KongIsland, theKowloonPeninsulaand theNewTerritories. At the center of it all lays the exquisiteVictoriaHarbourwhich detachesHong KongIslandfromKowloon. There are a ton of things to see and do at each of these different territories. This is why it is important for visitors to plan their itineraries in advance. It is a good idea to research on what these three places have to offer and book the trip according to interest.

Deciding on what type of weather you would like to encounter is important. TheIslandhas four seasons. Enjoy the warmth of the sun during the summer in the months of June, July and August. From September to November is Autumn. This is the best time to travel because the weather is not too warm and not too cold. The colder weather starts in the Winter which lasts from December to February. It is important to find out what the weather is before arriving inHong Kongto make sure that the proper clothing and shoes are packed.

It would be beneficial to learn a few simple Cantonese phrases before hopping on the plane as 88% of the population uses this dialect. However, most cab drivers, hotel managers and sales associates speak English.

Currently the legal tender is the Hong Kong Dollar. There is more than a sufficient amount of money changers found in the city and at theirInternationalAirport. This makes it easier for those that did not have the time to exchange their local currency to HK$ before their trip. For those that do not feel comfortable traveling with too much cash, most establishments do accept major credit cards such as Mastercard and Visa.
